TYPOCOM were commissioned by urban regeneration company New East Manchester to produce visual timeline documenting ten years of regeneration in east Manchester. The 25 meter-long graphic display was unveiled at the iconic Gorton Monastery and captures many of the milestones and highlights in a decade of change, including the hosting of the XVII Commonwealth Games and the creation of thousands of new jobs, homes and office space in the area.
Working within the clients budget and the constraints of a listed building proved a real challenge in producing an installation substantial and prominent enough so not to be engulfed by this magnificent but vast gothic venue. The display also had to be versatile so it had a lifespan longer than this single event. The solution was to produce a series of boards suspended from temporary rigging and illuminated with atmospheric lighting to create a dramatic and striking effect.
