Information Design
Information Design, Data Analysis, Case Studies
The following is an investigation into text and audio-based communication within the urban environment. Six case studies were carried out in international locations in public squares, selected based on the criterion of an accumulation of signs and a pared down approach to communication. The results were reflected in a series of charts and macroscopic drawings produced to facilitate data collection for analysis.
The data collection took place to form a comparative analysis and define the data recorded. Examples of text and audio communication found and listed within each square were broken down into one of the sections of the four major forms of communication identified as, directional, information, advertising, and transitory messages. A colour coding system was selected for each of the four major forms. These were; directional in green, information in pink, advertising in blue and purple for transitory messages.
